About Us

Who We Are

We are the Religious Community for Reproductive Choice (RCRC), a community of faithful and spiritual people committed to dismantling and healing religiously-based abortion stigma and shame.

As abortion care becomes more difficult to access, we know that there will be times when people may not have the in-person support they deserve before, during, or after their abortions. That’s why we created this site, first and foremost – to accompany people on their abortion journey, no matter where they are in the process. We also know that many people who have abortions are people of faith, and it can be hard to find affirming and compassionate spiritual resources online in a sea of religious anti-abortion extremism. Our intention and hope is for this site to be a resting place, a sacred space of comfort and care for people on their abortion journeys.

About Our Organization

This is a project of the Religious Community for Reproductive Choice.

The Religious Community for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) believes the decisions to become a parent, when, and under what circumstances are deeply personal. These matters are best left to an individual to discern in consultation with family, faith and others one may bring into the conversation.

We reject the shame and stigma that religious conservatives have long attached to sex, sexuality and reproduction. We challenge these views which have polarized the debate on reproductive issues, and offer spiritual support and solace as families and individuals make their reproductive choices.

About the Abortions Welcome Design Process

The idea for this site was born in 2020, when the imminent loss of abortion access in the United States was clear. RCRC came together with Mississippi-based Faith in Women to design Abortions Welcome, which launched its first version just three months before the overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Since then our site has been visited by over 35,000 people, which shows how much Abortions Welcome is needed.

Now solely a project of RCRC, Abortions Welcome has been updated for 2025 and beyond. Throughout the design process, we’ve sought the wisdom and input of people from various faith traditions who have experienced abortion. We followed their guidance on what kind of spiritual support they wish they would have had during their own abortions. We have also worked to incorporate feedback from Abortions Welcome users, leading to new content like our page of resources in Spanish.

Although our hope is for everyone to feel welcome and included here, we know that there will be gaps in what is offered. Our intention is for this site to continue to evolve and expand over time. See something missing? Let us know!

One other thing – websites don’t just happen on their own. The technical hands and creative hearts behind this site belong to the talented and dedicated Citizen Tech Collective, with original artwork by Morgan Linnett Graphic Design.

What We Stand For

Our guiding values and principles

Mountains icon

Dignity and Autonomy

We believe reproductive decision-making is sacred and that every person has the right, ability, and responsibility to make their own reproductive decisions, free from stigma and with unhindered access to the care, support, and resources they need to make those decisions.

Hearts Icon

Compassion

We believe that our call is to accompany people throughout their reproductive journeys and do so without judgment. We center the needs, emotions, and conscience of the individual person as they make decisions and process their experiences. We believe reproductive freedom is religious freedom.

Infinity icon

Whole Person

We believe in providing holistic, integrated care that honors and tends to the physical, emotional, mental, relational, spiritual, and other needs of people on their reproductive journeys. We believe our call as people of faith is to protect the freedom to access reproductive care.
