Spirit of life,
You live and breathe and move among us
in a thousand unfathomable ways,
and in every way, gently holding us together.
We remember today that you are the source of life,
and we stand in awe of the ways you invite us to participate in this great mystery.
Our minds turn now to this precious being,
how this growing presence has been surrounded by parental love
and by the anticipation of many others –
but something has gone wrong
and many hearts are broken.
Though this spirit has not been long in our world,
still we believe that this life has touched the world,
in ways we cannot yet imagine.
Grant this beloved soul rest, peace, freedom from suffering,
and most of all the knowledge of our deep and eternal love.
And for the parents,
who faithfully seek the best for their child,
strength, courage, and hope for the days to come.
So now we commend this soul to you,
the source of all that is,
the light in the darkness.
May this beloved spirit experience the fullness of abundant life
that exists most fully in that place where there is no more pain,
and no more tears,
and shine there all the brighter.
